New Delhi: Prabodh Tirkey has been retained as captain of the Indian men's hockey team for the Asia Cup tournament in Chennai which kicks off on September 1.
Indian Hockey Federation Chief KPS Gill announced the squad in Bangalore on Saturday, adding that the IHF expects a "good show" from Team India.
Three changes were made in the team that took part in Champions Challenge in Belgium. Srvices forward S V Sunil replaces Bharath Chikara who is out injured, Ignace Tirkey marked a return to the fold by replacing Sunil Yadav and defender V Raghunath came in for the injured penalty corner specialist Sandeep Singh.
After two bronze medal finishes in succession, Indian hockey, since Joachim Carvalho took over as its coach, has shown signs of improvement after a disastrous showing last year.
India and arch-rivals Pakistan are drawn in different groups in the tournament, which has been made keeping in mind the world rankings of the nations.
Head coach Joachim Carvalho remains optimistic that India will manage to better their showing at the Sultan Azlan Shah tournament in Kuala Lumpur and the Champions Challenge in Boom, Belgium.
