New Delhi: The Home Ministry on Monday sought a report from the Karnataka government on JDS leader and former Chief Minister HD Kumaraswamy shown by a CD discussing about cash-for-seat with the supporters of an MLC seat aspirant.

"We have sought a detailed report from the state government about the incident," a Home Ministry official said.

Kumaraswamy is mired in a controversy after Saturday's release of an audio CD about him telling the supporters of MLC seat aspirant Vijugowda Patil, a JDS leader from Bijapur district, about the demand for money from his party MLAs.

In the CD whose clips were played on Kannada TV channels, Kumaraswamy, son of former Prime Minister HD Deve Gowda, was heard telling the supporters of Patil that "each MLA (of JD-S) is asking for Rs 1 crore. They are saying you make anybody the MLC..."

Kumaraswamy had on Sunday defended himself, saying it had been blown out of proportion as if he had "committed a sin".
