MHA seeks report on killing of Assam SP
A Superintendent of Police and his PSO was killed in an encounter with the operatives of KPLT in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Thursday evening.

New Delhi: The Ministry of Home Affairs has sought a report from the Assam government into the killing of a senior police officer by terrorists in Karbi Anglong.

A Superintendent of Police and his PSO was killed in an encounter with the operatives of KPLT in Assam's Karbi Anglong district on Thursday evening.

SP Nitya Nanda Goswami of Hamren police district was leading an operation against the insurgent outfit in remote Rongthang forest area where they came face to face with a large group of the ultras who opened fire on them last night, IGP Law and Order A P Rout told PTI on Friday.

The police team retaliated and in the ensuing encounter, Goswami and his personal security guard were killed, Rout said.

The bodies of Goswami and his PSO were recovered on Friday morning, he said.
