Lucknow: After its drubbing in the Lok Sabha polls in the state, Congress' Uttar Pradesh incharge Madhusudhan Mistry on Thursday said he would recommend the party high command to dissolve the state unit. Mistry held a review meeting to discuss Congress's poor show in the state in the recently held Lok Sabha elections.
"I have been made party state incharge ten months before the Lok Sabha polls but I take responsibility for party's poor performance," Mistry told reporters in Lucknow. When asked on the possibility of change in the state unit, Mistry said, "Obviously, there will be changes in the state organisation. I will recommend to Sonia Gandhi to dissolve the state unit." Talking about reasons for defeat, Mistry said that late declaration of candidates and polarisation of votes in favour of BJP could be some of the possible reasons.
In reply to a question, Mistry said that no proposal came before him to bring Priyanka Gandhi in active politics. Congress had managed to win only two out of the 80 Lok Sabha seats in the state. Both the seats were won by Sonia Gandhi (Rae Bareli) and Rahul Gandhi (Amethi).
