It was an action packed Wednesday as a mob attempted to attack Mandya JD(S) MP N Chaluvarayaswamy and his supporters during a protest at KRS against the release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu. The JD(S) MP had to leave amidst police security as the crowd continued to attack him with slippers, pelt stones and abuse him in the foulest language.
The farmers disrupted his public speech and objected to his asking people to disperse from the KRS, when water was flowing down to Tamil Nadu. They alleged that Chaluvarayaswamy and others were only interested in publicity. They termed the resignations as a political gimmick and wanted the politicians to lead the stir as it would force authorities to stop discharge of water.
Chaluvarayaswamy managed to get into an auto but the crowd pulled him out and pushed the auto into a ditch. Later when he was moving towards the Circle in a vehicle, people verbally abused him for leaving them in the lurch. The cops intervened and escorted him away. The protestors also attacked MLA M Srinivas, former legislators Athmananda and L R Shivarame Gowda for volunteering to get arrested instead of exhibiting their commitment by leading the stir. The legislators left in a bus fearing attack.
Former MP G Made Gowda, former minister B Somashekar, KRRS leader K S Puttanniah, Nanjunde Gowda, Sunanda Jairam, K T Srikante Gowda participated in the stir.
