New Delhi: Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh (RSS) chief Mohan Bhagwat will be speaking at a seminar at Delhi University to discuss ways to develop an Indian point of view on the social and educational milieu. The event is scheduled to take place over the weekend.
Gyan Sangam, the two-day conclave to be held at Hans Raj College, will also debate the alternative 'vantage point' to assess and seek solutions to problems confronting the society.
Two other senior RSS functionaries, Joint General Secretaries Dr Krishna Gopal and Suresh Soni would also be participating in the seminar.
An introductory paper circulated before the conclave laments the loss of Indian knowledge system in the last millennia and a half to invading and imperialist forces. The paper further underscores the need for corrective measures aimed at establishing an intellectual eco-system which is representative of India's culture and history.
Since the ascension of BJP at the centre, its ideological fount- the RSS- has been engaged in a pitched battle with the liberal Left for space in both cultural and academic circles. From award vaapasi, to intolerence to JNU Student agitation, the two sides have clashed on many occasion in the last two years as the Indian Right attempts to appropriate a larger space for itself once dominated by the Left.
At its General Body meeting recently concluded at Coimbatore, the RSS among other important changes has appointed J Nandkumar as the convenor of Pragya Pravah. Nandkumar was earlier deputy to RSS Prachar Pramukh Dr Manmoha Vaidya.
The RSS pracharak from Kerala was earlier posted to Bhopal before shifting base to Delhi last year.
