Mumbai cops challenge Haseena bail
Mumbai police have appealed against the bail granted to fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar.

New Delhi: The anti-extortion cell of Mumbai police on Friday filed an appeal against the bail granted to fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim's sister Haseena Parkar in a case of cheating, forgery and extortion, stating that she is not cooperating with investigations by being outside custody.

Additional Sessions Judge R D Mullah is likely to hear the plea on June 5. In its appeal, the police alleged that there were irregularities in court proceedings while granting bail to Parkar and the metropolitan magistrate's court did not have any jurisdiction to handle the case.

They have also pointed out that Parkar was not co-operating with the investigations. Parkar, who is currently out on bail, was supposed to be an escrow agent between two developers in a slum rehabilitation project, which fell through, and had allegedly

retained 30 per cent of the advance as extortion.

The appeal for the cancellation of Parkar's bail has come in the wake of Bombay High Court's calling for Parkar's remand papers to find out if there were any irregularities in the metropolitan court proceedings while granting bail to her.

Parkar had turned up in court on May 22 after evading arrest for a month. She was later granted bail and directed to attend the office of the AEC for 30 days and not tamper with evidence.
