Mumbai Cricket Association club house is illegal, says Sena leader
A Shiv Sena corporator on Wednesday alleged that the club house constructed by Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) in suburban Kandivali on the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) plot is illegal and in violation of agreement. "MCA carried out construction on the land marked as playground beyond permissible limits. The plot is meant for sporting activities but MCA has built a bar, a restaurant and card rooms, which are unauthorized. MCA has not even secured mandatory occupation certificate from BMC," alleged Shiv Sena corporator and Leader of House in BMC, Yashodhar Phanse.

The municipal corporation of Greater Mumbai had allotted 39,000 square meters of land to MCA for conducting cricket tournaments and training camps, he said. "Since the land is a public property, it should be accessible to public in the morning and evening but that is not happening," Phanse said.

The allegations came ahead of the scheduled inauguration of the club house by Chief Minister Prithviraj Chavan on July 14. "While handing over the land to MCA in 2003, BMC had laid down certain conditions like providing facilities to BMC after development of the plot. However, these conditions are not fulfilled," the Leader of the House in BMC said.

He said that Shiv Sena demanded action against MCA office bearers for violation of norms. When contacted, BMC authorities refused to comment on the issue, saying they are yet to look into the matter.
