New Delhi: Infosys Chief Mentor N R Narayana Murthy on Saturday flayed the absence of any representative from Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL) or the Centre at a function to give away the award instituted in memory of Manjunath Shanmugam.
Manjunath, an IOCL sales officer was murdered for exposing the oil mafia.
"I am sad that today we do not have any representative from IOC, an organisation that Manjunath fought for. I am sad we do not have at least one symbolic representative from the Government of India", PTI quoted him as saying.
"Ideally a person like the Prime Minister should have been present as he knows the importance of honesty, integrity and ideals," he added.
The award has been instituted for deserving candidates who have reported and worked to rectify corrupt practices in government, public or corporate life.
Murthy however, said, "A set of youngsters from all over the world, pan IITs and pan IIMs have come to cherish the memory of one of their own."
He lauded the members of the Trust, an international IIM alumni initiative, for "their energy and perseverance in taking up the case with alacrity and ensuring justice as all eight accused in the case have been proven guilty in the verdict pronounced yesterday".
A district court in Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pradesh had held all eight accused guilty with the sentence to be delivered on Monday.
