Providing a platform to discuss issues related to government budgets and fiscal decentralisation, a ‘National Consultation on Budget Transparency and Accountability’ will be held on September 20 at Mascot Hotel, here.
The consultation, part of an ‘effort to make state and national budgets more transparent, participatory and accountable to the citizens’,is being jointly organised by the Centre for Budget and Governance Accountability (CBGA), New Delhi; Gulati Institute of Finance and Taxation (GIFT), T’Puram; and Institute for Sustainable Development and Governance (ISDG), T’Puram.
Budgeting and fiscal decentralisation, budgeting for the disadvantaged and budget accountability to citzens are among the areas which will be given focus during the consultation, according to the press release issued by the organisers.
It is expected to ‘develop recommendations as a policy document to be submitted to the government’.
Policy-makers, civil society activists, economists and budget experts from around the country will participate in the event, which will be inaugurated by Chief Minister Oommen Chandy.
Finance Minister K M Mani and State Planning Board Vice Chairman K M Chandrasekhar will also be present during the inaugural session.
