Gaya/Patna: CPI (Maoist) leader and Naxalites' think-tank, Jagdish Yadav alias Jagdish Master, whose capture was credited with Rs 2 lakh, has been arrested in Bihar's Gaya district, police said today.
Jagdish was a member of the Maoist Central Committee and a Politburo member.
DIG (Magadh range) Umesh Kumar and Senior Superintendent of Police Vinay Kumar told reporters that a joint team of Special Task Force of Bihar police, District Armed Police and CRPF surrounded a private clinic at Guraru Bazaar and captured the Naxal leader on Sunday.
Jagdish Master, a resident of Gamaharia village under Kasma police station in Aurangabad district, was admitted to the clinic for treatment. The doctor, Lalji Prasad, who was treating the Naxalite leader was wanted in several Naxal operations in Orissa, Bihar and Chhattisgarh and had been evading arrest since 1973.
"After the arrest of Jagdish Master, an alert has been sounded in Gaya to prevent any backlash, as the arrest will be a big setback for the Maoists," said a police officer.
Jagdish was allegedly looking after the affairs of the organisation from the forest areas of Dumaria-Imamganj, the police said.
