BANGALORE: Take a nap, read newspapers and watch television while you wait for your bus.BMTC, on Thursday, inaugurated air conditioned waiting lounge at Shanthinagar Traffic and Transit Management Centre (TTMC).The lounge is equipped with facilities like newspapers and television for passengers who take Vaayu Vajra Volvo bus to International Airport.The TTMC is constructed on a 562 sq ft area at the cost of `5 lakh.The lounge can accommodate 18 passengers at a time.Apart from this, staffers of Vaayu Vajra will announce the bus departure timings at the lounge so that passengers do not miss their bus.“We have three routes passing through Shanthinagar with 68 trips every day.The lounge will be open 24x7,” said principal secretary of Transport Department P B Ramamurthy.BMTC MD K R Srinivasa added that this is the second such lounge in the city after Jayanagar.“BMTC is considering opening more such lounges at other TTMCs,” he noted.“Kempegowda Bus Station has the maximum passengers for the Vaayu Vajra service.We are considering another AC lounge there, but it has been delayed due to joint works being undertaken by KSRTC and BMTC,” Srinivasa said.He added that after the expansion plans at Bangalore International Airport were completed, BMTC would look at starting a lounge at the BIA.“We have asked them to allot space for the lounge.We are confident starting one at the BIA too,” he said.Keeping in line with its image as the country’s leading public transport service, the BMTC inaugurated its newly renovated offices on the 4th and 5th floor of the Shanthinagar TTMC.The new office has a GPS control room to suit the needs of the physically challenged persons.
