NGO helps minor escape marriage

MADURAI: Owing to the timely intervention by a Madurai-based NGO, the marriage of a 16-year-old girl to a 27-year-old man was prevented from taking place in Klakulam under Seythunganallur police limits of Thoothukudi district on Saturday.Evidence, the Madurai-based NGO, received information on Friday night that a marriage had been arranged between Kowsalya (16), daughter of Muthuvel and Rajeswary, and Sivalingam (27), son of Suppiah, of Tirunelveli, on Saturday. Evidence staff informed the officers in Thoothukudi to prevent the marriage. The parents of both the bride and groom gave in after police warned  them of dire consequences.
