The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s even and odd car number plates solution to Delhi's pollution problem has ensued a debate. While the AAP has expressed faith in the proposal, the National Green Tribunal seems to differ.
The tribunal's lawyer has said that the Delhi government's proposal will only put more burden on the police force and that the government should rather consider other suggestions.
"Solutions must be the one which can be digested by people. If implemented, the entire burden would lie on Delhi police and the concept is of Delhi government," said NGT lawyer Balendu Shekhar appearing for Environment Ministry and MCD.
He also pointed at the possibility of a blame game on the issue in future, saying, "If some failures come, blame game would start again. NGT and HC had given other suggestions like identifying highly polluted spots, making taxis switch to petrol and CNG."
This comes even as AAP leader Ashutosh has hoped for support from the Central government and Delhi Police.
