KOCHI: Eleven officers, including four from the Indian Coast Guard, passed out from the Naval Institute of Aeronautical Technology (NIAT), under the Southern Naval Command, here on Saturday. The passing out parade, making the culmination of a two-phased training programme, was reviewed by Surgeon Rear Admiral Nirmala Kannan, command medical officer of Southern Naval Command. Deputy Commandant Rahul Malareddi was adjudged first in order of merit among air engineers, while Deputy Commandant Karamjeet Singh secured top honours in the air electrical category. Lieutenant Om Krishna Patel was the best all-round trainee officer. The training at NIAT was conducted in two phases wherein the officers were initially imparted training on basic aeronautical subjects including, aerodynamics, aircraft engineering, electrical systems, aircraft structures and advanced aircraft technologies. The officers were then given specialised training on two Naval aircrafts. Besides theoretical training on basic subjects, the officers also undertook various projects on aeronautics. The officers will now proceed to various air squadrons of Indian Navy and Indian Coast Guard for on-job training. On completion of the training, the officers will be awarded M Tech degree in Aeronautics by the Cochin University of Science and Technology.
