New Delhi: The legal wrangle over director Ram Gopal Varma’s Nishabd doesn’t seem to be over.
The Delhi High Court had said on Tuesday that the petitioner, J Kanungo, should have approached it earlier if it wanted to stop the screening of the Amitabh Bachchan starrer.
But Kanungo, the director of Bengali film Nishabd, has challenged the Court’s order refusing a stay on the release of RGV’s movie of the same name before a larger bench.
Kanungo's counsel Kartik Jaishanker mentioned the matter before the division bench of Chief Justice M K Sharma and Justice Sanjeev Khanna, seeking an early hearing in the case as Verma's Nishabd will be released on Friday.
Kanungo Media Private Ltd contended that it had the exclusive right to the title of the film and the use of it by any other producer amounted to violation of intellectual property rights.
The bench fixed the hearing for Thursday while dismissing a petition by the media company.
Justice A K Sikri on Wednesday had said, "You have approached court very late. It is not possible for us to grant any kind of injunction. You have missed the bus only because of your delay. The law laid down in the Act is clearly in your favour.”
