No action against Registrar yet

BANGALORE: Bangalore University Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev said that the Principal Secretary for Higher Education Latha Krishna Rao is examining the issue of alleged misappropriation of funds in the construction of post-graduate centre and dispelled rumours that action has been taken against the BU registrar (Administration) and finance officer.Higher Education Minister V S Acharya, also the Pro-chancellor of the university, had written to the principal secretary on July 25 suggesting that the university registrar and financial officer be suspended for alleged misappropriation in the construction of Kolar PG Centre. He was acting upon the complaints filed by certain Syndicate members.Some members have been protesting against Registrar R M Ranganath for allegedly cutting a deal with the same contractor, who delayed the project initially, to now complete the project at an inflated rate than initially agreed upon. They further raised the issue of the financial officer giving his nod to the project without even attending the meeting called to discuss the issue. All the more infuriating for the members of the Syndicate was that the decision was taken without seeking the approval of the Syndicate.While the principal secretary was unavailable for comment, Vice-Chancellor Dr N Prabhu Dev said that the university has submitted all documents and reports related to the issue to the department. “How can any action be taken against the registrar without examining the issue com?” he said .
