A writ plea seeking a direction to the top police officials to transfer Duraipandian, inspector attached to the Vellavedu police station in Tiruvallur district, has been made in the Madras High Court.
Duraipandian is an accused in a murder case, which had been transferred to the CBI for further enquiry, on July 13 this year.
Justice S Nagamuthu, before whom the writ petition from V Rathika of Thirumanam village came up for hearing on Tuesday, ordered notice to the authorities concerned, returnable in two weeks. According to advocate S Prabakaran, the Rathika’s husband Veeran was the president of the Thirumanam village panchayat. He was also the bloc joint secretary of the Puratchi Bharatham Katchi and his body was found behind the local Panchayat Middle School on April 20, 2012. He contended that Veeran was murdered at the instigation of the local MLA Manimaran, inspector Duraipandian and other police personnel attached to the Vellavedu police station. Prabakaran had prayed for a direction to transfer the case to the CBI and the judge on July 13 transferred the same to the CBI. Now, Prabakaran contended that the presence of Duraipandian in the same place and post would not create a conducive atmosphere for a free probe by the CBI. The inspector had already started threatening the witnesses, including petitioner Rathika. If he was allowed to remain in the same place, no witness would come forward to give statements about his involvement in the murder, Prabakaran argued.
