Taking a cue from the ministers hailing from the Telangana region, Congress MLCs from the region wrote to AICC president Sonia Gandhi on Friday requesting her to immediately announce statehood for their region.

The MLCs appealed to their party chief to announce her decision much before the commencement of Telangana March on September 30. They made it clear that except statehood no other solution such as a financial package was acceptable to the people of the region. Only bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh would strengthen the Congress in the state, they asserted.

KR Amos and K Yadav Reddy had collected the signatures of the  MLCs. “We have sent a letter to our party president Sonia Gandhi and also the members of the Congress Core Committee,” Yadav Reddy  said and announced that they would go to Delhi, if necessary, to meet the top AICC leaders.

He requested Congress leaders from the other two regions to cooperate with them in persuading the Congress high command to arrive at a quick decision on bifurcation.
