Another fashion week in the city goes by and once again we get a glimpse of designers showcasing something 'different', a mixed bag of styles, designs and colours and a 'scarcely' dressed audience. The Blenders Pride Bangalore Fashion Week saw a host of designers with new cuts and patterns.
City Express spoke to one of the top designers, who showcased his art on the ramp, Narendra Kumar. “This is the first time we are experimenting with Indian clothes. So, I am sure the audience will be in for a surprise,” he said. And surprised we were, for geometrical patterns were fused with bridal wear . The designer experimented with new styles. A lot of traditional wear was seen on the ramp with a hint of bright hues and intricate patterns thrown in.
When asked that Bangalore is not so evolved in terms of fashion as other metros, he said, “Here, the willingness to spend is not there. Values are also different as compared to other cities. People focus more on children and education, which is good. But slowly Bangloreans are getting a hang of what fashion is and I think they are ready to experiment, which is great.” According to him, a person's wardrobe should be built on fundamentals. It is all about playing around and experimenting with your clothes. If you have the basics in your wardrobe like a pair of jeans, t-shirts, a jacket, then you can be creative and look fabulous.
A lot of girls from the audience were seen strutting around in mini skirts and tight short dresses. So we asked Narendra what he felt about people blindly following styles shown in magazines? “What you see around is fashion not style. Style is when you incorporate good dressing in your daily life,” he said. Narendra Kumar has dressed the biggies of B-Town. On being quizzed who his favourite film star in terms of dressing up is, he said, “I have dressed many stars and to name one will be unfair. I think Akshay Kumar and John top the list.”
