In a heart-wrenching incident reported from Telangana, a toddler was attacked and killed by stray dogs at midnight, when the one-year-old came out of his hut in search of his mother on Thursday.
The shocking incident took place at Shamshabad municipal headquarters in Ranga Reddy district, Telangana.
The case comes under the limits of the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport (RGIA) police station, which informed that the couple Kolla Suryakumar and Yadamma belonged to Nagaram village of Devarakadra Mandal in combined Mahabubnagar district.
The duo along with their one-year-old toddler Nagaraju migrated to Shamshabad in search of livelihood and was staying in a thatched hut near Rallaguda.
Yadamma was admitted to a hospital as she was experiencing labour pains due to pregnancy, while his son and husband remained at home.
On Wednesday night, the police said that the one-year-old cried and his father consoled him and went back to sleep.
But after some time, Nagaraju once again got up and came out of their makeshift hut in search of his mother Yadamma. The moment he came outside, a pack of stray dogs in the vicinity attacked him.
The commuters and passersby on the road drove away the dogs and tried to rescue the toddler, but their efforts turned futile as Nagaraju succumbed to his injuries.
The couple had three sons including Nagaraju. One of their sons died due to ill health, while another died seven days after the birth.
In another unrelated incident, a four-month-old boy succumbed to the injuries sustained after an “attack” by a stray dog in a hut in the Shaikpet area, officials said.
The baby’s parents, who are labourers, had left him in a cradle in the hut and gone for work, they said.
As per information, three stray dogs went near the hut and one of the stray canines went inside the hut which had no door, and bit the boy on the face and forehead, a civic official said.
The boy was subsequently admitted to a state-run hospital where he died while undergoing treatment, the official said. The boy’s parents hail from Mahabubnagar district of Telangana.
