Lakhs of devotees from across the country thronged the streets of Ayodhya on Tuesday after the doors of the Ram Mandir were opened to the general public, following the “pran pratishtha” (consecration) ceremony of Ram Lalla by Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
The Uttar Pradesh Government said around five lakh devotees paid obeisance to Ram Lalla in the Mandir on Tuesday, while a large number waited outside the temple premises for the darshan.
Earlier today, security personnel, drawn from police and paramilitary forces, had a tough time controlling the crowd of devotees, many of whom had been queuing up since late Monday night.
At least four devotees fainted as the people pushed and shoved their way towards the temple. Several others were also injured in the process.
“Over 8,000 policemen are overseeing the arrangements and everything is under control,” said Shishir, Information Director, UP.
Special DG (Law and Order) Prashant Kumar and Principal Secretary (Home) Sanjay Prasad were also stationed inside the temple and overseeing the arrangements.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath also visited Ayodhya earlier today to oversee arrangements at the Ram temple as it was opened for the people.
Adityanath also conducted an aerial survey of the temple and directed officials to take all necessary measures to control the crowd. He deployed district magistrates at eight places to ensure peace, security, traffic and order.
Consecration of the Ram Lalla idol was held amid religious fervour on Monday in the newly built temple in Ayodhya.
Prime Minister Modi took part in the ‘pran pratishtha’ rituals in the presence of Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Adityanath and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat. A score of luminaries from the field of cinema, sports and saints had attended the ceremony.
