P C Thomas flays Moilys stand on Mullaperiyar

ALAPPUZHA: Former Union Minister P C Thomas has said that Union Minister for Corporate Affairs Veerappa Moily’s comment that the Central Government will not interfere in the Mullaperiyar issue is a violation of the Constitution.  He was speaking after inaugurating ‘jalasyanam’, a strike to protest against the stand of the Central Government at Ramankary near here on Monday.“The agreement on Mullaperiyar was signed between the then Travancore king and the British Government in 1886. After Independence, the Central Government and Kerala state became the parties to the agreement. Hence the Centre should interfere in the issue and settle it,” Thomas said. He said his party will begin a padayathra from Marine Drive in Kochi to Mullaperiyar on January 6. Kerala Congress chairman Scaria Thomas also took part in the strike.
