BANGALORE: Veteran sociologist and Professor of Research Methodology, Tata Institute of Social Sciences, Dr N Jayaram, was presented with the Dr Panduru Gururaja Bhat Memorial Award at a function here on Saturday, for his contributions to the field of sociology.Governor H R Bhardwaj presented the award to Dr Jayaram at a function organised by the Dr Panduru Gururaja Bhat Memorial Trust.The Governor was effusive in his praise of Udupi district, where the awardee hails from. He said, “Udupi, a knowledge hub, has contributed many intellectuals and eminent politicians to the state. Students from this region win many of the state scholarships. The culture of this region should be retained.”Acknowledging the scholarly contributions of Gururaj Bhat, under whose name the award has been instituted, Bhardwaj said that no research on the temples of South Canara would be complete without a mention of his name. “It is fitting that Dr N Jayaram receives such an award,” he said.Member of Economic Advisory Committee to the Prime Minister Dr M Govinda Rao and retired High Court Justice K Jagannatha Shetty were among those present.
