BANGALORE: Governor H R Bhardwaj has appointed a one-man commission consisting of Justice K Shivashankar Bhat, retired High Court judge, to conduct an inquiry into as many as five matters in Bangalore University (BU) in view of ‘recent happenings in Bangalore University causing disturbances and with a view to restore proper academic environment in campus’.In an official communique from Raj Bhavan , it is stated that the Governor, who is also the Chancellor of the university, will exercise of the powers (of suo moto) conferred upon him under section 8(1) of the Karnataka State Universities Act, 2000.The inquiry will look into complaints of large scale malpractices in the examinations conducted at the Distance Education Centres resulting in cancellation of examinations, circumstances behind the recent attack by Sri Rama Sene on Dr BR Niranjan, allegations and counter-allegations related to the construction of PG Centre in Kolar and ‘to fix the responsibility of delay in completion of the project’, to identify the persons responsible for ‘vitiating the atmosphere in the campus and to recommend remedial measures to restore academic atmosphere’ in the Bangalore University campus and ‘to inquire into any such incidents disrupting the peace in the campus that may occur during the pendency of this inquiry’.The one-man inquiry commission will submit its report to the Governor in 6 months, the communique stated.
