New Delhi: Both Houses of Parliament were adjourned till noon on Thursday after parliamentarians created a furore over the killing of 11 people in clashes between anti-SEZ protestors and police in West Bengal's Nandigram village.
Right at the onset, a peeved Opposition demanded suspension of Question Hour and taking up of discussion on the Nandigram issue.
While leader of the Opposition, L K Advani, was allowed to speak on the issue in the Lok Sabha, the demand for suspension of the Question Hour was turned down.
Even as Advani spoke, the Opposition parties began shouting slogans like "Communists are murderers" and "Communist high-handedness will not be tolerated".
In fact, members of the Shiv Sena even demanded the dismissal of the Left Front Government in West Bengal for the "cold-blooded murder of farmers".
The Left, which was literally 'left red-faced' questioned the Chair under what rule was Advani being allowed to speak.
In Rajya Sabha, when leader of the Opposition Jaswant Singh rose to speak on the issue, CPI-M leader Brinda Karat asked Chairman Bhairon Singh Shekhawat under what rule the issue, a state subject, was being raised. This provoked an angry reaction from BJP members who raised slogans.
