MADURAI: Putting an end to the row over the custody of five-year-old Mexican child, Adila, a division bench of the Madurai Bench of the Madras HC has asked officials from Mexican embassy to hand over the child to Monica Mansour Eisler (65), the paternal grandmother. According to an undertaking filed by Martin’s mother, Adila is expected to be taken to Mexico within two weeks. Monica, mother of Maths research scholar Manrique Martin got the child’s custody after her counsel P Kumaresan produced before Justice S Rajeswaran and Justice M Vijayaraghavan, an agreement signed by Martin and his slain ex girlfriend Cecile Denise Acosta in a Mexican court at the time of their estrangement. Though the couple split in 2007, one year after Adila was born, their estrangement deed was officially signed in 2011 at a Mexican court where it was agreed that Adila would spend one year with her father and the next year with her mother. This arrangement was to be continued for 13 years from May 16, 2011. In the absence of both the parents, Adila would be entrusted in the care and custody of Martin’s mother, it was agreed. Adila reportedly made adverse remarks about her maternal grandmother stating that she was abused. Taking the statement of the child and the agreement into consideration, the court denied Cecile Mireille Reynaud Pulido (55), the slain Acosta’s mother the custody of the child. As per the instructions of the judges, she also filed an undertaking at the court stating her willingness to take Adila to Mexico, through the Mexican embassy in India. Therefore, the judges directed the embassy officials to take Adila into their custody and then hand her to her paternal grandmother. “The embassy shall make arrangements for their early departure to Mexico. Both the parties shall file a suit there for the permanent custody of the child”, the judges observed while closing the case.
