People have lost faith in police system

HYDERABAD: “Every death in police custody or fake encounters is a victory of those who perpetuate violence and a defeat of those who are meant to safeguard law and order in the country. The fact that Ajmal Amir Kasab was given a fair trial is what makes us better than such perpetrators of violence,” said justice Bilal Nazki, former chief justice of the Orissa High Court. Speaking at the University of Hyderabad on Friday, Nazki said, “People have lost faith in the police system. How is it possible that lakhs of criminals always confess? If a chargesheet says the accused has not confessed but here is the evidence against him, I feel there is still hope.”
