BANGALORE: The Association of Consulting Civil Engineers (India), to serve the Civil Engineering fraternity, inaugurated a three-day national seminar and exhibition, REcent DEvelopment in CONstruction-REDECON 2012 — repair, rehabilitation and retrofitting at the Convention Hall, NIMHANS Campus recently.The aim of the conference was to seek and exchange theory and various practices in repair and rehabilitation through theoretical and experimental studies. The conference also aimed at developing and understanding standard practices for repair, rehabilitation of structures, alternate and new materials.The themes of the conference were — issues in restoration of structures, development in restoration techniques, structural health monitoring systems, use of alternate materials and construction chemicals, diagnostic devices, distress mitigation, techno-legal issues and case studies.This seminar provided details and ideas of repairing, rehabilitating and retrofitting of structures to extend the life span for increased performance and maximising economic returns.Research in the areas of specifications, materials, methods, strategies and systems that been carried out by researchers were emphasised. Presenters highlighted and presented their findings and case studies on materials, methods and techniques, ways to cope with increasing loads and deterioration factors.Speakers like Dr A K Chatterjee, Dr P Y Manjure, Dr A K Sinha, Dr N Rajagopalan, Dr S K Manjarekar, Dr C V Kand, Profressor B R Srinivasa Murthy, Dr G Narayanan, Dr Amol Shingarey, Professor S K Gandhi and others were present at the event.
