HYDERABAD: A public interest litigation was filed in the AP High Court seeking the court to direct the state government not to proceed with the recruitment of Village Revenue Assistants (VRAs) in pursuance of notification issued on November 30, 2011 for recruitment of 1,172 VROs and 6,063 VRAs. The exam was held on February 19.Social worker and president of the reservations protection struggle organization K Ravinder of Karimnagar district, in his petition, urged the HC to set aside the proceedings initiated to appoint VRAs.The decision to recruit candidates for VRA posts has resulted in infringing the Watandari rights of SCs who had held the posts of Talayari, Vetti, Kavalkar, Neeradi, Neeradiganti, Totti, Bariki etc. There are about 60,000 village servant posts spread in nearly 27,000 villages in the state. The government admits that the Watan is not abolished, but on the other hand it came out with certain amendments that infringes the lawful right of SCs who were discharging duties as village servants.
