New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on Saturday asked controversial Indian ambassador to US, Ronen Sen, to continue on his deputation. Sen will continue as India’s ambassador for one more year.

Sen, India’s pointsperson in the US for negotiations on the nuclear deal, will stay on see the nuclear deal through till the new government.

This comes a month after the Indian foreign office in the US confirmed that Sen had declined an extension of his tenure, which ends on March 31.

Sen was reportedly in New Delhi in first week of January to meet Manmohan Singh.

Sen came under attack from Indian Parliamentarians when he referred to the critics of nuclear deal as “headless chickens”. But on November 16, the Privileges Committee of the Lok Sabha let him off the hook but not before he was cautioned for his 'act of indiscretion'.

The Parliamentary panel, which had summoned Sen over the comment, took a lenient view of the issue and recommended that he be let off and the case closed. Sources said the Lok Sabha panel, however, recommended that Sen be cautioned for his 'act of indiscretion' in making the controversial remark.

A draft of the report on Sen, which was considered and approved by Lok Sabha Committee, held that there was no breach of privilege or contempt of the House by the Indian envoy.

Maintaining that the remark was not against MPs but targeted at the media, the House panel still felt that it was 'lamentably naive' for the senior diplomat to make such unguarded comment even in an informal chat.
