Ahmedabad: Minister of State in the Prime Minister's Office Prithviraj Chavan on Saturday said that the Justice R S Pathak Inquiry Authority report was not leaked from the PMO.
"Justice Pathak gave one copy of the report to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh. As the inquiry committee was set up by Finance Ministry, Prime Minister forwarded the copy in a sealed cover to that ministry," Chavan said.
"However, the parts of the committe's finding came in some section of media just before the report reached the Finance Ministry," he added. He also said that an inquiry to determine who leaked the report to the media was going on.
Opposition BJP and Left parties have demanded an inquiry on the day the report was leaked saying that the government should have presented the report before Parliament.
When asked about the CPI(M) leader Prakash Karat's demand of investigations against Reliance, who he alleged to be the biggest benificiary in Oil-for-Food scam, Chavan said, "he should have raised this demand in Parliament instead of asking for it in public."
Chavan said during the discussion on the Volcker committe report in Parliament, the CPI(M) had only demanded investigations against Congress and Natwar Singh and not Reliance.
He said the terms of reference of the Pathak committee appointed by the government was only to probe the role of Congress and Natwar Singh.
When asked whether Centre will order investigations on the role of Reliance, Chavan said,"let them first make the demand in Parliament then we will decide".
