BANGALORE: Bangaloreans battling heavy rain and winds are being pushed into darkness with power cuts affecting their lives daily."There will be no power supply for at least three hours in a day. While on rainy days, the number of outages just increases," said Sridhara L N,an IT professional from Pai Layout near K R Puram. At Vidyaranyapura on Tuesday, the residents complained that there was no power supply the whole night. There were also long hours of power cuts reported from K Narayanapura, Hennur, Banaswadi, Jayanagar 1st block and certain areas in Shantinagar.Lack of maintenance work is said to be the reason for frequent power cuts.According to sources, it was in 2005 that Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) carried out operation and maintenance (O M) of distribution system last time."Maintenance work has to be carried out every year. However, the BESCOM, with its ever increasing load, is unable to take up the annual maintenance work. Even the transformers are not maintained, then where is the question of line maintenance?" a former senior energy sector official said.
