Tellyland is the next hot destination for the who’s who of Bollywood. Right from Amitabh Bachchan to Priyanka Chopra has been hooked on it. Clearly even they know that there is more 'moolah' on television.
So go on and check out the list of B-Town actors who have tried their hand at hosting television shows. How many of them made how much.
Priyanka Chopra
It almost came as a shocker when the news spread that Priyanka Chopra was to replace Akshay Kumar in Khatron Ke Khiladi - Season Three. The shoot is set to take place in the beautiful locales of Brazil. And this time the contestants would not be hot babes but cricketers who’d compete with each other. The shooting would commence in the month of June and it is rumoured that Priyanka has charged about Rs 3 crore for 20 days. Now that’s a whopping amount. Priyanka Chopra is probably one person who fits the role as an action diva.
Abhishek Bachchan
'It’s the time to Bingo' that’s probably what Abhishek tells himself every time he begins the shoot for his show, National Bingo Night on Colors. The show began with a big bang and had Amitabh Bachchan as Abhishek’s first celebrity guest on it. But if word is to be believed, Abhishek couldn’t create the magic and the TRPs of the shows are running low. Apparently the actor was paid a whopping Rs 1 crore for each episode and in all he has done 13 episodes in a season. Abhishek is clearly laughing his way to the bank.
Shah Rukh Khan
Shah Rukh replaced Amitabh Bachchan for Kaun Banega Crorepati Season 3. The Baadshah of Bollywood, SRK was welcomed with open arms on TV. People loved him which resulted in Shah Rukh doing another show for Star Plus, Kya Aap Paanchvi Paas Se Tez Hai?. On the lines of Are You Smarter Than A Fifth Grader?, this show did wonders for Shah Rukh. Even children sat with rapt attention to listen and watch the actor. Now this is interesting, apparently Shah Rukh was paid Rs 75 crore for the entire season of KBC and Rs 1 crore for each episode of Kya Aap Paanchivi… Clearly, we now know who is rolling in money.
Salman Khan
He has style, charm, looks and a body to kill for. It’s almost unfair and unbelievable if Salman was never approached for a show. But Sallu is smart; he waited for the right opportunity and the right show. Dus Ka Dum on Sony worked wonders for Salman’s image as a down to earth and a friendly celebrity. He won over the hearts of his audience and managed to garner great TRPs. He was again paid Rs 1 crore per episode, and in the first season there were 30 episodes. in the second season, Salman reduced his rates from Rs 1 crore to 80 lakh per episode, and he had done about 14 of them. Clearly he settled for a good bargain. Wouldn’t you agree?
Akshay Kumar
Khiladi Kumar, as he is fondly called, Akshay was the perfect choice for Fear Factor - Khatron Ke Khiladi on Colors. He had the mass appeal when it came to stunts and being a ladies man Akshay Kumar was the best bet. Akki was paid Rs 1 crore for each episode. The TRPs of the show had reached its ultimate high ever with Akshay as the host.
Amitabh Bachchan
A legend himself, Amitabh needs no introduction. He has seen it all from struggle to stardom back to the grind and then to the top again. During his downfall, Kaun Banega Crorepati came to Amitabh as a life saver. He charged about Rs 50 lakh per episode, which ran four times a week. During the second season, Amitabh doubled his amount for every episode. As many of you had seen Bigg Boss - Season three where Amitabh hosted the show, apparently the actor got an exorbitant amount of Rs 1.75 crore for each episode. Do we need to say anymore?
Shilpa Shetty
The only other Bollywood diva to host a show, Shilpa Shetty after winning the title of Big Brother in the UK, became the most wanted celebrity. Although she would be considered as the lowest paid of them all. Shilpa was given about Rs 45 lakh per episode in Bigg Boss – Season Two. The actress has judged Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa and ready to get on board new show, Zara Nachke Dikha on Star Plus.
Of course, there was Arshad Warsi who had hosted Bigg Boss when it began. Even Farhan Akhtar had joined the bandwagon with his show Oye! It’s Friday!. Sajid, Farah Khan, Karan Johar all have had their share on television. Even so, now there are rumours of Aamir Khan to do Kaun Banega Crorepati – Season 4 and Sanjay Dutt to host a game show. Indeed the stars are minting money, can you blame them really?
So would you now agree, if we say that there is more 'moolah' in Tellywood?
