HYDERABAD: Senior IPS officer VK Singh, who is probing bribery allegations against some East Godavari police officials in connection with ‘illegal’ recruitment of 232 home guards, is expected to submit his preliminary report to DGP V Dinesh Reddy in a couple of days.The recruitment of home guards allegedly done under pressure from some MPs and MLAs, was cancelled the moment Dinesh Reddy ordered an probe. At least three police officers are likely to face action. Another police official is likely to be charged with negligence. Sources told Express that after the matter was brought to the notice of Dinesh Reddy that 232 home guards were recruited by accepting bribes ranging from `50,000 to `1 lakh, the DGP directed Visakha Region IGP VK Singh to submit a report after conducting an inquiry into the bribery charges.Two cash transactions allegedly took place between some police officials and home guards. One transaction amounted to `10 lakh and the other `12 lakh.“The home guards recruitment order has been cancelled. A probe is on to ascertain the role of SP, Additional SP, Commandant and a DSP in it,” sources said.In fact, Dinesh Reddy was reportedly furious as to why the matter was not handled properly by East Godavari district SP Trivikrama Varma giving scope for bribery allegations.
