The process for obtaining regulatory clearances for state-run NTPC's proposed 1,600 MW thermal power plant in Odisha is under way, Parliament was informed on Tuesday.
"NTPC has informed that for Darlipalli Project (2x800 MW) in Odisha, the process of land acquisition by the State government and environment and forest clearance of project as well as its linked Dulanga coal mine from the Ministry of Environment and Forests is in progress," Power Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said in Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.
"Out of the 1,274 acres of private land, possession certificate has been received for 1205 acres and of the 338.97 acres of Government land, payment for 275 acres has been released by NTPC to state government and transfer of Government land is under process of approval of state government," he said.
Environment clearance for the project has been recommended by Expert Appraisal Committee (EAC) of the Environment Ministry, last year, subject to grant of forest clearance for Darlipalli Project and environment and forest clearance for linked Dulanga coal mine. For forest clearance of 34.47 acres forest land of Darlipalli Project, Forest Advisory Committee (FAC) of the Environment Ministry had recommended for holistic decision on diversion of forest land required for two interdependent projects (Darlipalli and Dulanga). Scindia said it has been further suggested that the proposal for diversion of forest land for Darlipalli project with Environment Ministry should be transferred to FAC for consideration along with that Dulanga proposal. NTPC which currently generates over 41,000 MW electricity plans to add another 10,000 MW by 2017.
