Six girls were rescued and as many arrested from a dance bar in Panaji after Goa police busted a prostitution racket. The kingpin of the racket, however, managed to flee from the spot, police said on Tuesday.
The girls were rescued during a raid at a private building located in Campal area late last night, Deputy Superintendent of Police Mahesh Gaonkar said. Although police records mention the place as a private property, eye witnesses said the girls used to dance in the makeshift bar located on the terrace of the building.
The girls, in the age-group of 20-30, were brought to Goa by one of the accused, who is absconding, from Punjab, Delhi, Mumbai, Uttar Pradesh and Chhattisgarh, Gaonkar said. Out of the six arrested, Ajay Pradesh Singh, Mahendra Singh, and Dharmendra Prasad hail from Uttar Pradesh and had gone to the place as customers.
Also, Komal Thapa and Sanjeev Sah, both hailing from Nepal, and one Babu Ghanta, who had taken the place on rent, were arrested under Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act. Police are still on the look out of another accused, Gaonkar said, adding that his arrest is crucial to unearth further links in the case.
