As per government officials, the fire at the army ammunition depot in Maharashtra’s Pulgaon city in Wardha district that killed 19 people on Wednesday will be investigated for internal sabotage.

All the previous trespassing incidents will also be relooked into although some of these cases were found to be the handiwork of lunatics who were later released.

Since mines are usually stable ammunition, the explosion in anti-tank mines will also be closely examined to understand the reasons behind the carnage.

The fire that lead to the blast on Wednesday had gutted the entire shed within 25 minutes, and around 130 tonnes of ammunition worth over 100 crore rupees was shattered in the incident.

The impact of the blast was so severe that it was felt at a distance of upto 3 kms, sending tremors through houses in the area.

Reportedly, there were some serious quality issues with the anti-tank mines stored in Pulgaon as the plastic shells of the mine had developed cracks.

The cases of explosive TNT were said to be flowing out from the ammunition. A proposal of crack repair through plastic welding was being considered by Directorate General Quality Assurance.
