Racing against life....?

Was recording a song with Swanand Kirkire and Shantanu Moitra for 15th august special programme. Since the last 3-4hours I was inside the studio where there was no mobile network. Suddenly my mobile beeps and got a sms.

Our camerman Sudhir Sawant expired last night. Everyone in office was going to his home by 13:30. Do join. It was too late for me already. But what hit me hard was that I could not figure out who was Sudhir. How did he look ? Who was this guy ? I never worked with him? Or may be I used to know him by his nickname or some other name? Reached office and Sudhir Sawant was still haunting me.

There were only few of us in office, by that time. Not everyone had returned. Asked few of my colleagues. But still my memory was blank. One of my colleagues described his features...'thoda short height, chashma pehnta tha,pointed nose, OB par rehta tha zyadatar"...but i was still blank. Finally recognised him when I saw one of my colleagues was putting Sudhir's picture on his blog.

This guy was Sudhir! I recognised him. I have seen him hundred times in the last few months since we all joined IBN last august.I never worked with him. May be because he was in news and I am with features. But we had smiled at each other whenever we crossed. The company is growing bigger by the day...so many channels, so many websites, so many people....I still dont know many, dont know their name. Have seen them around only. Sudhir Sawant was one of them.

He had survived heart attacks earlier. Lost his wife few years ago.His daughter is 7 years old. I know more about this man now,than when he was alive. We are indeed running very fast. Dont have time for ourself,don't have time for friends and family members, dont have time to sit idle and chat a bit to figure out about the other person. We search for each other's names on net.We browse about our homes and locations on google map/wikimapia. Get to know about my friends and their flings on their blogs. Where and why are we running? Or is it only me ?

Was Guru Dutt right somehow....'ye duniya agar mil bhi jaye to kya hai'! Will I be able to stop running? Hope so.

(There is some heartening news though...got to know few days ago that Sudhir's brother in law, who is also a camerman in other channel is looking after his now lonely daughter.I know his brother in law very well and have worked with him many times. But had no clue that both of them were related. He is good person and am sure he will take care of his niece)
