Railway clarification on Kochuveli terminal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Southern Railway has clarified that the suburban railway terminal at Kochuveli has not yet been renamed.    The State Government had on December 20 issued a statement to media organisations that the railway  station was renamed as Vikram Sarabhai Terminal.   “The naming is done by the Railways and not by the State Government. A recommendation in this regard is under the consideration of the Railway Ministry. However, there are several steps remaining before the actual renaming which will be announced by the Railway Ministry,” a Railway official said.     He said that the passengers should use the existing name for all purposes, including ticket reservation, until the renaming is announced by the Railway Ministry.   The State Government had earlier sent a letter in this regard to the Union Ministries of Home Affairs and Railways. It is learnt that the Home Ministry has given a green signal and the proposal is under the consideration of the Railway Ministry.
