KOCHI: With the inauguration of the preliminary work of the Kochi Metro Rail project, the Union Government is planning to expand Edappally, Kalamassery and Tripunithura railway stations, Union Minister of State for Consumer Affairs and Food K V Thomas has said.
He was speaking after inaugurating a railway reservation counter at Collectorate at Kakkkanad on Saturday. This is the first ticket counter to be started in the state utilising the MP fund which was announced in the 2009 Railway Budget. "Over 1,000 railway ticket reservation counters will be opened in the state," Divisional Railway Manager Rajiv Dutt Sharma said. Excise Minister K Babu inaugurated the first ticket sale. The new ticket counter will operate in the new block of the Collectorate. The counter will operate from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

As of now, Kalamassery and High Court have railway ticket reservation counters.

The traffic congestion experienced in the city can be solved by permitting more stops for trains in Trippunithura and Kalamassery, the minister said.
