Kota: Rajasthan BJP MLA Chandra Kanta Meghwal, her husband Narendra Meghwal, party workers along with five policemen were booked on Tuesday for unlawful assembly and voluntarily causing hurt to deter public servant from duty, police said.
A total of five cases were registered against the BJP MLA from Ramganjmandi, her husband and other party workers along with five police personnel, including Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) and Circle Incharge (CI) and three constables, under relevant sections of IPC and SC/ST Act at Mahaveernagar police station, Swai Singh Godera, SP Kota city, said.
The five police personnel have been sent to police line, he said.
A scuffle broke out between the MLA, party workers and police personnel on Monday over the issuance of challan for the vehicle of a BJP worker here.
The BJP MLA's husband allegedly thrashed CI Ram Basaida following which the police resorted to force and lathicharged the party workers, who had assembled around the police station to protest against the issuance of challan, police said.
Five police personnel and about a dozen BJP workers, including the MLA, sustained injuries in the incident, they
said.
A high-level committee was set up to probe into the incident.
Following a meeting between senior police officials and BJP leaders, including Kota MP Om Birla and local legislators, three cases were lodged against DSP Cunaram Jat, SHO Sri Ram, constables Surendra, Ashok and Khemchand, and two cases against the BJP MLA, her husband and party workers, Godera said.
No arrests have been made so far, he said, adding the situation is peaceful at present.
