Ready to obey party, says Rahul Mahajan
Late BJP leader's son makes surprise visit to BJP’s National Executive meet, says he will obey party orders.

New Delhi: Rahul Mahajan, son of late BJP leader Pramod Mahajan made a surprise appearance at the Bharatiya Janata Party's (BJP)National Executive meeting in Delhi on Monday.

Asked whether he would join politics, he said "It can be given a thought," but he would abide by whatever the party chief asked him to do.

Rahul had been invited by Party President Rajnath Singh to lunch with BJP leaders who had extended condolence to him on the death of his father.

Rahul said he was yet to overcome from the shock and described his meeting with senior party leaders, "who miss my dad", as emotional.

When former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee was leaving the venue, Rahul bowed before him to touch his feet.

To a specific query whether he would work for the BJP, Rahul said, "as of now there was no plan to join politics."

To a question whether there was any offer from Rajnath Singh for joining the party, he said, "The party President will answer this question. I will do whatever the party President asks me to do".

Asked if he would play an active role in fulfilling his father's dreams, Rahul said, "whatever a son can do to fulfill his father's dreams, I will do." But, he hastened to add that politics was not the only dream of his father.

The two-day BJP National Executive meet, being held in Delhi for the first time after Mahajan's death on May 3, unanimously adopted a resolution recalling his great contributions to the party over the years.

Rahul's presence at the meeting assumes significance as it came close on the heels of party chief Rajnath Singh's efforts to get him or his mother, Rekha, a Rajya Sabha nomination from Maharashtra on Pramod Mahajan’s seat.

However, the efforts proved futile as the Congress turned down the proposal despite support from Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) Chief Sharad Pawar.

Rahul later left for Assam with the urn containing the ashes of his father.
