BANGALORE: RDPR Minister Jagadish Shettar has said that the gram panchayats have been directed to video-record the proceedings of all the gram sabha meetings.“This follows the large scale complaint that the gram sabha meetings are not being held meaningfully and there has been a tendency on the part of the officials as well as elected representatives to take the gram sabhas for granted,” Shettar said. “In an attempt to usher-in a sense of professionalism and make the lowest level of panchayat work in a professional manner, it has been directed that all the gram sabha meetings shall be video recorded and stored in digital format, to be submitted to the government when asked for,” he added, while speaking to reporters here on Thursday. According to Shettar, each gram sabha has been authorised to spend not more than Rs. 2,500 for recording the proceedings to be held once in two months and the amount is to be borne by the respective gram sabha. “In the event of any demand from the public to view the video, then the CDs should be made available to the people at the cost of Rs. 100 for each CD,” he added.
