BHUBANESWAR: RS Butola, Chairman of the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd (IOCL), on Saturday said the Rs 25,000-crore Paradip oil refinery project would be completed by end- 2012.“The project work is moving very fast and the plant would be commissioned by the end of next year,” Butola told mediapersons here. Stating that the project work worth Rs 8,000 crore has been already completed, he said the 15-million tonne refinery would be commissioned at one go.Butola met Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik here to apprise him of the progress in the project. He also met Chief Secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik. The IOCL chairman said the Corporation would complete the oil refinery project in the first phase and then it would go for the petro-chemical complex. He said the investment for both the oil refinery and the petro-chemical complex has been estimated at Rs 54,000 crore. The IOCL chairman said the Chief Minister assured him that the State Government would provide all support to the project for its scheduled completion. The State Government will review the progress of the project on a monthly basis, he added. While IOCL is laying a surge embankment road to protect the refinery from sea erosion, a village blocks the road project resulting in stoppage of work. Official sources said this and several other issues cropped up during discussion. Naveen said steps would be initiated to solve some of the problems faced by the refinery project.
