BANGALORE: The Rotary International District 3190 has announced five welfare projects for children in the state in the backdrop of the forthcoming 35th District Conference on February 4 and 5 in the city.According to what has been planned, the District will sponsor chemotherapy for 60 children at a cost of `60-90 lakh, heart surgery of 150 children at a cost of Rs1 crore, distribution of one lakh dictionaries to poor children at a cost of Rs1 crore, solar lighting of 106 government girl’s hostels and construction of sanitary facilities in 20 schools that the organisation has adopted. Speaking to reporters here on Friday, District Governor Dr S Nagendra said, “These initiatives are part of our services for uplifting of weaker sections of society, especially children. Our aim is to improve their quality of life by providing social, educational and health facilities.”He further added that some of the initiatives were already underway.  “We have identified such children and sponsored their free treatment. Currently, treatment is on at Rangadore Memorial Hospital, Jayadeva Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences and Research, BGS Hospital and Manipal Hospital. Also, close to 25,000 dictionaries have been distributed already,” said Dr Nagendra. The two-day District Conference will see participation by Bangalore South MP Ananth Kumar, Pejawar seer Vishvesha Teertha Swami, Miss India Earth 2010 Nicole Faria among  others.
