HYDERABAD: During the past two months, traffic police have collected fines of more than Rs 1.25 crore from four-wheeler drivers for wrong parking. More than 32,000 cases have been booked and wheel clamps used to crackdown on the menace. According to police, 750 wheel clamps have been issued two months back, to immobilise vehicles parked wrongly on roads.Additional commissioner of police (traffic) CV Anand said they are imposing a penalty of Rs 400 which includes fine for wrong parking and also the amount, if the vehicle is towed away. The concerned traffic officer affixes a slip with his contact number for removing the wheel clamp. Anand added that under Section 127 of the Motor Vehicle Act, they can book a wrongly parked vehicle by either towing it away or immobilising it using a wheel clamp. He said the highest number of 4,582 cases were booked by Punjagutta traffic police followed by 3,705 in SR Nagar limits. “The fine amount generated through these cases is Rs 1.29 crore,” Anand said.“The impact of using wheel clamps has been good with medium and heavy vehicle drivers thinking twice before parking on main roads,” Anand said. He, however, said the problem of wrong parking is perennial.
