New Delhi: Life has quite literally not been a cake-walk for cricketer Sachin Tendulkar lately.
He has wound up in another controversy following a report by a television channel that he had cut a cake which had the colours of the national flag during the Indian team's stay in the West Indies last month.
Meanwhile, the Cricket Board has played down the incident saying Tendulkar would never show any disrespect to the national flag.
"Tendulkar has spoken to me. He says that the function was organised by the India High Commission and with so many people around he did not realise the colour of the cake when he was suddenly asked to cut it," PTI reported BCCI Vice President Rajeev Shukla as saying.
Shukla added that Tendulkar could not be held responsible as the function had been organised by the Indian High Commission and only the Commission could be held accountable for the incident.
Meanwhile, the star batsman’s act has enraged fans in Indore who beat Tendulkar's posters with a bat and later set them on fire.
The ‘cake controversy’ follows the issue of Tendulkar being slapped with notices by the BCCI for talking to the media on former coach Greg Chappell after India's debacle at the World Cup.
Tendulkar had been quoted as saying that he was ‘deeply hurt’ by Chappell's questioning of the senior players' attitude.
