New Delhi: The team of 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster' has returned with a bigger star-cast in 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns'. Jimmy Shergill and Mahie Gill are reprising their roles from the first edition while Irrfan and Soha Ali Khan are the new players of the game. We caught up with Rahul Mittra, the producer of the film, and investigated about the latest version.
Q: How is 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster' Sequel different from the original?
A: The film 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster' was politics of relationships, it was more of a bedroom drama, but 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster Returns' is a step ahead. It is definitely more layered and more extravagant. In fact, I can bet that the audience will not be able to predict the climax of the film.
Q: Isn't the film relying too much on dialogues to make it a hit?
A: It's a combination of all factors. It's a successful franchise now, people already know the characters. It's an overall package of a great script, amazing performances, bigger cast like Irrfan Khan, Raj Babbar, Soha Ali khan. We are also introducing Pervesh Rana in this film. I feel it was difficult to tell that how the stories of 'Saheb and Biwi' move ahead with a new character Irrfan Khan. But, I am happy with the way things have shaped up.
Q: Your relation with Tigmanshu is very cordial which we don't normally see between a producer and a director.
A: Absolutely, our journey has been fantastic together and I've always believed Tigmanshu not only as a director but also as a business partner. A producer-director duo can work only if the two understand each other's synergy and bond together.
Q: The characters of the film will operate in a familiar space in this film as well.
A: Jimmy Shergill has come out with a better performance, so is the case with Mahie Gill, Soha is brilliant. Each and every character is justified the role as the script demanded. The end result is people will come out of cinema halls and will rave about the performances I hope.
Q: is there any target audience?
A: 'Saheb Biwi Aur Gangster' was a smaller film with a smaller budget. Whatever as a producer I could not do with the first film I have tried my best to do it in this film, with ballroom dances, polo matches, the film has a wider concept and so is the case with the release, it's a big budget 'mazedaar masala' film and we have released it in both multiplexes and single screens.
Q: Are you expecting the film to make huge profits at the box office?
A: Actually, to be honest I am not even thinking about that. We have worked really hard and come out with a killer concept, it's a known franchise and people are familiar with the characters. We are looking forward for a great response and right now I am focusing on increasing the visibility of the film. Whatever happens at the box office is welcome. I am confident that the film will do well, now how it gets transferred to numbers is for all of us to see.
I think this is the first time people will see hoardings of the film with dialogue and character's name on it. I think that's very innovative. I think people are going to enter the alien world of 'Saheb and Biwi' and we have made them aware of this world they're going to enter.
