BHUBANESWAR: Cracking down on the hooligans, the Commissionerate Police has arrested eight youths from Rasulgarh for Wednesday’s rioting in Sahid Nagar. The police had constituted three teams which raided several areas and held the youths. During the arrest, police also searched their premises and seized three cars, two bikes, an MUV and scores of hockey sticks. The police have also gathered information about the whereabouts of another half a dozen or more youths for their involvement in the incident. Commissioner of Police BK Sharma said more arrests would follow in the next few days. On Wednesday evening, a large group of youths from Rasulgarh area landed at Sahid Nagar and went on the rampage, destroying public property. Several cars were damaged while shops and ATMs were vandalised by them. Three persons from Sahid Nagar too were held by the police for Tuesday’s attack on some youths of the Rasulgarh which had led to the retaliation. Bhubaneswar DCP Nitinjit Singh said the accused had been charged with serious rioting, damage to public property and criminal intimidation. They have been booked under Sections 147/148/149/294/307 and 506 of the IPC besides Damage to Public Property and Criminal Law Amendment Act. Three of them __ Itish Pradhan, Nikhil Routray and Swagat Mohanty __ have been identified as the leaders of the group. All the 11 were produced before a local court here on Saturday. Two different cases have been lodged with Sahid Nagar Police Station in connection with the incident which had sparked off large-scale resentment in the area.
